Swisscom has already been using NTS Retail's easyShopping self-service solution since 2014. Using these self-service terminals, customers of Switzerland’s largest telecom provider are able to purchase mobile accessories or top up prepaid credit completely on their own and without waiting for a sales agent to become available during busy hours in selected shops.

As a long-standing software supplier for Swisscom, NTS Retail was also taken on board for an additional innovative project. The recently introduced NTS self-checkout services lay the foundation for yet another expansion of self-service opportunities at Swisscom shops.

Thanks to the integration of the service with the company’s own My Swisscom app, customers are now able to query additional product information and prices using their smartphone while at the store. In addition to that, they can also purchase selected items with a price of up to CHF 100 directly from within the app, paying with their credit card or via open invoice. This way, customers receive the opportunity to buy the desired article right away and leave the shop without having to get in line for a regular checkout counter. The sales receipt can either be called up directly within the app or the customer decides to have it sent to their e-mail address.

To optimally integrate the My Swisscom app with the shop processes, NTS Retail has developed and implemented three new web services. Apart from a dedicated interface for ensuring secure authentication of the app within the NTS Retail environment, a special service serves to provide the corresponding article and price information. The core piece of the software package is a web service responsible for the correct booking of received payments, the adjustment of stock levels after a purchase as well as the downstream integration with SAP. The My Swisscom app including the new NTS self-checkout functionality is now available across all Swisscom shops.
